NBC Faces Lawsuit For Defaming Mother Whose Daughter Died 36 Hours After Vaccines
In honor of October SIDS Awareness month, I thought we would talk about that thing with which we cannot speak: vaccines.
In March 2019, a healthy, six-and-a-half month old breastfed baby girl named Evee Clobes died suddenly, and unexpectedly in her sleep just 36 hours after vaccines. Because Evee was bed-sharing (as a lot of breastfed infants often do) with her mother Catie at the time of her death, when the media eventually picked up her story they were quick to blame Evee’s mother, inciting and unleashing an angry mob that has continued to defame and vilify her to this day.
Never mind all sorts of details, such as the recent vaccinations, or the fact that Evee was over 6 months and already rolling over unassisted. Never mind the initial autopsy report was less than certain, and ruled Evee’s death as “undetermined,” and even acknowledged “asphyxia [is] not often associated with specific anatomic findings and cannot be detected by physical examination at autopsy.” Co-sleeping with an adult was listed as a significant condition on the report, but bed-sharing is practiced by families all over the world, all of the time without consequence. The only thing remarkable about Evee’s recent medical history was that she got 2 shots, a 5-in-one, and another shot just a few days before her unexplained death–a detail which was curiously absent from Evee’s autopsy report.
If anyone is going to argue that bedsharing causes death to 6 month olds who have muscle control to move and shift in their sleep, then we need to look into how recent vaccination increases an infant’s risk of death while bedsharing. Recent vaccination and recent doctor checkup is a commonality in sudden, infant deaths, as well as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Whether the infant is a few weeks old, or a few years old–why is vaccination so often a part of the sudden, infant death story? It’s amazing to me it’s escaped proper scrutiny for this long. And it’s high time a mother is doing something about it.
A mother sues NBC Universal
Catie Clobes filed suit against NBC Universal as well as their journalists Brandy Zadrozny and Aliza Nadi for defamation and emotional distress with damages sought in the amount of $230 million for an article they wrote in 2019 which mischaracterized the details of Clobes’ 6-month-old daughter Evee’s sudden and unexpected death which unleashed an avalanche of hateful articles, death threats, harassment and even stalking by pro-vaccine law professor Dorit Reiss Rubenstein. The NBC article (which spawned many articles at other networks from The Daily Beast to Daily Mail) written by Zadrozny:
“Proceeded to use selective and irrelevant parts of Evee’s local death investigation in the article as well as taking advantage of, and putting her own interpretation on a punitive, deceitful action undertaken by a local medical examiner who conducted Evee’s autopsy. Clobes further claimed the article ignored the relevant facts and proof that Clobes and others had provided while adding in her own unfounded theories, substantial inflammatory language, and complete fabrications to intentionally tell a false and misleading tale of Evee’s death while offering a negative image of Clobes to those reading the article.”
Strobl amended the autopsy in June changing both the manner and cause of death to “accident” and “Positional Asphyxia” respectively, only after Clobes made the medical examiner aware of her plans to petition the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program–a manner and cause of death which–as it turns out–would not qualify for a settlement.
Clobes writes:
“This article was devastating and has had a profound negative effect on my life. It has been the catalyst for me receiving thousands upon thousands of abusive messages, harassing, shaming posts and comments on all social media platforms, threats sent to the inbox of the unofficial organization that I set up in my late daughter’s name (www.justiceforevee.org) and spawned actual written threats to me in the mail. Additionally, fraudulent pages and groups on social media have been created just to impersonate, stalk and/or harass me, destroy my reputation, and deceive the public. People have claimed that I am a “baby-killer” and that I caused my daughter’s death.”
“This isn’t the first time Zadrozny has done something dishonorable like this. She has been publicly called out by numerous people and the media for libel, doxxing, stalking, misquoting, and more. NBC is itself at major fault for knowingly keeping an unethical, immoral, unlawful reporter on staff, and allowing her to continue harming and destroying lives with her writing. It’s time that NBC and its reporters are held accountable for their negligence which in this instance has completely ruined my life.”
Should media blame mothers when science is still uncertain?
The thing is: no one knows what causes sudden, infant death, regardless of whether it’s called SIDS or undetermined or unknown. While the cause(s) remain unknown, it’s premature to cross something like vaccines off the list, especially when there is ample evidence that vaccines can and do cause death in infants. Deaths shortly after vaccination are documented and reported on all around the world.
I think if most people understood the actual risks of vaccines (not the billion dollar PR campaign that most people see), and also were aware of the inadequacies and conflict-of-interests of Pharma funded science (and that there is an entire medical and scientific community that actually investigates the risk): they would understand there is a whole lot more that we don’t know, than we do know. It’s so true: We do not know what we do not know.
Do we “know” why apparently healthy babies die in their sleep? Do we know why pediatric brain tumors are increasing in prevalence? Do we know why young people get multiple sclerosis or deadly anaphylactic food allergies? The answers are all “No.”
When a medical examiner looks over a body and attempts to determine how that person died, or what caused death, we need to remember the body doesn’t have a button we push that prints out the exact, specific manner and cause of death. It’s technically a guess. Yes, it’s an educated one, based on a detailed autopsy and an investigation of the death scene–but at the end of the day, it’s still just a guess. And each pathologist or medical examiner exhibits a great degree of variability from one another, meaning, the same death could be classified differently, by different pathologists.
Correlation does not imply causation?
It’s easy to blame co-sleeping, or blame the mother, but around the world high rates of bed-sharing does not necessarily equal more infant deaths. In fact, contrary to what you may have been told or led to believe, higher rates of bed-sharing are associated with lower rates of sudden, infant death. And conversely, more vaccine doses are associated with higher rates of infant mortality.
In Japan, a country with a much lower rate of sudden, infant death than the United States, bedsharing and co-sleeping are socially acceptable, normal aspect of caregiving, with at least 72% of mothers reported they slept within arms reach of their infant, and 40% of mothers reported they bed-share every night.
There is something else interesting about Japan: In the mid-1970s, 2 deaths within 24 hours of the DPT vaccine (and possibly 37 or more) led to a brief pause in vaccination, followed by a lifting of the minimum vaccine age to 2 years. The infant mortality continued to decline throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and their SIDS rate fell close to zero. Then in response to increasing cases of pertussis (and a reported 41 deaths from pertussis in 1979), a new, less reactive vaccine was introduced in 1981, and then the vaccination age was again lowered to 3 months in 1989. As vaccine acceptance rose, vaccine coverage increased, and the age of vaccination lowered to 3 months, SIDS cases began to climb.
As you can see in the graph above, any net gain in reduction in suffocation deaths is consumed by SIDS deaths for a resulting slight uptick in overall mortality over the 30 year period.
While one may argue that we need the vaccine, despite possible risk of death, we have to remind ourselves that high vaccine coverage does not necessarily mean low rates of infection. For example, in 2019 in the United States, despite over 95% of 19-35 month olds having 3+ doses of DTaP, the CDC recorded over 18,000 cases of pertussis, and 7 deaths. More than 53% of cases were over the age of 11. Of cases under 6 years old, over 41% had received at least one dose of the DTaP, 48% had vaccination status unknown, and only 8% recorded as unvaccinated. And our SIDS rate is one of the highest.
Throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s the SIDS rate in Japan was still much lower than other highly developed nations. Up until 2012, Japan still didn’t begin vaccinating infants until they were 3 months of age or older, and their “recommended” vaccine schedule was also much more sparse than other countries like the US and Canada, which boast large vaccine schedules, and much higher SIDS and SUID rates.
More recently in 2016, Japan has added more infant vaccines to their “recommended” schedule, as well as added a few vaccines at 2 months of age (still keeping the DTP-I at 3 months + though) and since 2012, a study found that Japan’s postneonatal mortality is now higher than their neonatal mortality, the leading cause being SIDS.
Postneonatal is over 1 months old, and typically a country has a higher neonatal mortality than postneonatal. For example, the US’s postneonatal mortality rate is roughly half of what our neonatal mortality rate is. Japan is an interesting case study, as they are now vaccinating slightly younger, and adding more doses, I would be curious to see what happens to their postneonatal mortality rate, and also their SIDS and unknown rates as time goes on.
Recently in 2019, Japan researchers investigated vaccination-related details and postmortem findings for 57 cases of sudden death in children 2 years or younger, and found that 3 infants (9.4%) were found to have died within 3 days among 32 cases, and 7 (21.9%) were within 7 days of immunization, much higher than the estimated probability of vaccination prior to sudden death found by Brotherton, et al:
“The overall estimated probability of vaccination within the last 24 hours for a child who has died of SIDS in Australia is estimated as 1.3%. In the last 48 hours, it is 2.6%.”
Are vaccines harmful to everyone?
I don’t think vaccines are harmful to everyone in a way that is directly observable, or obvious. But that doesn’t mean that each vaccine a person gets in their life doesn’t contribute to their overall health decline, whatever that may look like. For some, it’s an acute injury such as transverse myelitis or myocarditis, for others it’s chronic auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
It’s naive to think a vaccine wouldn’t have an impact on our health. After all, we inject them specifically to have an impact. A single course of antibiotics affects our intestinal microbiome for as long as 6 months–and our intestinal microbiota is essential to human health, with effects on nutrition, metabolism, pathogen resistance, and other processes. Just one intervention, such as a vaccine, could affect our entire body in ways we cannot predict or understand unless we specifically–and without bias–investigate it.
Our immune system developed in direct response to pathogen exposure. What do you think is going to happen if we live in a vaccine paradigm whose mission it is to prevent all infections?
He asked, “Where’s the proof?”
In Zadrozny’s article, she spoke with California State Senator Dr. Richard Pan whom she quoted, “It’s one thing for a family to say, ‘My child died,'” Pan told NBC News. “But when you say, “It was caused by vaccines, and now I want to change laws or stop laws in a way that will hurt children,’ then it’s not inappropriate to say: ‘Where’s the proof?'”
So it’s quite ironic, or tragic actually, that the whole reason Ms. Clobes requested from the medical examiner slides of her late daughter’s brain tissues, she was trying to gather evidence that would prove her daughter died from vaccinations. It was only after that request that the ME then amended the cause of death, and refused to hand over Evee’s tissues forcing Clobes to seek legal action.
Strobl amended the cause of death from “undetermined” to “positional asphyxia” on June 26th, 2019, months after the original autopsy was completed and initial cause of death was released, and just a few days after Clobes’ privately hired independent neuropathologist, Dr. Douglas Miller, found a cellular infiltration in Evee’s hippocampus and asked Clobes to request an immunostain (confirmation) test on the infiltrate and Evee’s medulla tissues from the medical examiner’s office. Exactly two days after multiple calls and emails to the medical examiner’s office, requesting the confirmation test be done and the medulla be released and sent to Dr. Miller for study, Strobl sent a letter via email to Clobes telling her that she was amending the cause of death to “positional asphyxia” citing irrelevant and inaccurate findings from the crime scene, using the wrong investigator’s name, falsifying the reasoning, and then told Clobes she was aware of her “desire to petition vaccine court” and that she was done with her “haphazard requests as they don’t pertain to the cause of death,” completely disregarding the fact that a discovery had just been made in Evee’s brain and Miller’s study was not complete.
The original autopsy by Strobl shows no evidence nor does it point to positional asphyxia being the cause of death. Dr. Douglas Miller is a well-respected, top of his field, Harvard educated neuropathologist who has a plethora of experience in the field of sudden infant deaths and was shocked by Strobl’s actions, telling Clobes in a recorded phone call that it sounds like an outside entity leaned on Strobl to change the cause of death.
Typical autopsies are not detailed enough to determine whether vaccination caused death, so of course, this is a catch 22. A much more detailed examination of the brain is needed to determine how the vaccine elicited an immune response that caused death, such as this case report of a 3 month old infant who died hours after a hexavalent vaccine. And even then, infants who die from vaccines may still be dying from different causes, mechanisms, etiologies, but the vaccine is still the trigger that set off the fatal cascade of events.
Which is why getting Evee’s brain tissues to neuropathologists was so important:
Even after the abuse that Clobes was suffering through, she still kept fighting for answers. In August of 2020, another well-respected neuropathologist did the final and full study of Evee’s tissues that Clobes had to legally fight to get out of the examiner’s office, along with all other evidence that exists. He concluded that there was sufficient evidence to show that Evee had suffered from a fatal seizure in her sleep that was triggered by a cytokine storm which was induced from the 6 vaccines she received 36 hours before she died. Finally, she had found the answers to Evee’s death, the one & only goal she had from the start and the only thing she wanted all along.
The proof is all around us. It’s in the brains and bodies of these infants who died hours, days or weeks after vaccines. It’s in the stories of these mothers and fathers. It’s in the SUIDI reporting forms. It’s in the case reports. It should be all made transparent to the public.

To a lot of parents, Catie Clobes is an inspiration because she is doing what many parents don’t have the courage or strength to do. Her baby girl died 36 hours after vaccines, and she was thrust into this world that is hostile, aggressive, and actively gaslights anyone who has a negative experience with vaccines. Instead of staying silent about the loss of her child, or quietly moving on with her life with one less limb, she is turning Evee’s death into something potentially more transformative. She may change the way the media treats these victims. She may change the way parents look at vaccines. She may change the uneven playing field for thousands and thousands of vaccine injured people who largely have had to bear their burden alone.
Catie isn’t just getting justice for her or Evee, she is getting justice for all of us.
