Since July 30th, 2020 this has been our life. The only reason I am posting this is to reach out to all of you for support.

On July 29th I took Stanley for his vaccines. He had three shots, two of which he has had before and the Gardasil vaccine.

Before starting, his pediatrician told me that they would have to monitor him for 15 minutes after the HPV shot just to make sure there is no dizziness or nausea. I was ok with that. Seconds after the vaccine was given Stanley began to feel flu like symptoms, he asked to lay down. His skin became very blotchy. It was within minutes he felt an extreme pain in his chest.

Within the hour, he started to have tremors that looked like a seizure and fainting episodes as well. His pediatrician called for the paramedics. We were rushed to Piedmont ER with chest pains. He was given a steroid shot, Benadryl and Ativan. It stopped and we were discharged shortly after.

The next day, Stan goes to YMCA and the same thing happens again. Fainting, tremors, chest pain. EMS is called and we’re back at the ER. This time at Levine Children’s hospital.

While we are in the ER his attacks begin to worsen, now he is waking up from fainting and not knowing who anyone is. So now it’s fainting, trimmers, memory loss and chest pain.

An x-ray of his chest is done and they discover a mass running parallel to Stanley’s spine. We have done many test since then, met with the hematologist and the pediatric surgeon. It’s a benign tumor called ganglioneuroma.

Dr. Osterheld believes that the tumor has been there his whole life. The pediatric surgeon and Dr. Osterheld the hematologist gave me the option to remove it or to monitor it given the fact it’s not really causing him any harm. I have decided to have it removed.

Back to the “panic attacks” they have not stopped. They actually get worse and they have started happening more frequent. He has about two per week since September 10th. During one of these attacks he lost feeling in his legs for 2 hours. Leading him to urinate on himself.

The last “panic attack” he had which was Thursday night, he did the same thing. Another time, he had a sensation in his legs and chest that he described to be very painful. He’s had rashes on his face which he says feels like pins and needles. His personality has also has begin to change.

Anyone who knows Stanley knows him to be a very loving, sweet, respectful young man. He’s become extremely argumentative with an “your not the boss of me” attitude. All of this has happened since July 29th.

At this current time we are back at Levine Children’s hospital, admitted once again. This time we were admitted for the neurologist to run an EEG monitor and to do a spinal tap to see if this is an autoimmune disorder.

The doctors came in this morning to remove the EEG monitor and anesthesiologist came in right after to start the lumbar puncture. He’s now awake and feeling fine. I’m not sure if we’re being discharged today nor am I sure when another panic attack will happen.

Do I think that all of this is because of the mass they found? No I don’t.

Do I think this is from the HPV vaccine? Or that Stanley could have had some disorder all along, it just took that HPV vaccine to wake it up? Yes I do.
