Baby Alexander was born January 3, 2022 with the congenital heart defect Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) and a tracheoesophageal fistula, the latter which was repaired after birth.

According to his mom Cornelia Hertzler, he improved a lot after that first surgery:

“He has drastically improved since his surgery on Monday and seems very comfortable and not in pain or discomfort. It’s been a rough road but every day brings us one day closer to resolution.”

But then the hospital decided to give Alexander a blood transfusion, against his parents wishes. They had wanted to find blood that was not contaminated with vaccinated blood. (Not a bad idea as the mRNA vaccines are associated with blood clotting, and the messenger RNA that encodes for the spike protein is in the blood.)

Right after this transfusion, Alexander developed a blood clot in his knee.

“A blood clot that no blood thinner could resolve,” his mother said.

Alexander also developed thrombophlebitis (swelling of a vein), and then a MRSA infection in his blood. It was also discovered that he had hemophilia (a life long blood clotting disorder where your blood does not clot).

According to his mother:

“He was born with issues in his heart and throat that needed operations to fix. These have been fixed on many babies who were perfectly fine afterward and were not high risk to his life.”

His mother describes the blood clot that Alexander developed as extending from his knee to his heart. After the clot formed, no medication would dissolve it and his organs began shutting down, and the MRSA infection got worse. Alexander died just 2 weeks after the transfusion, on February 17, 2022.

“Baby Alexander was born January 3rd at 11:09 pm. I noticed he was having difficulties breathing and would often choke. After one such episode, a nurse rushed him away, and in subsequent x-rays and ultrasounds, it was discovered that he had tracheoesophageal fistula, and Double Outlet Right Ventricle, DORV for short. Since neonatal heart surgeons are rare, he had to be life-flighted from Richland, WA to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, WA.

On Monday, January 24th he finally got his Fistula repaired, but it took longer to heal than expected. Friday, February 4th, they finally verified there was no more leakage around the sutures, and scheduled a surgery for Feb.. 10th to place a band on his pulmonary artery to restrict blood flow to his lungs and help oxygenated his body for the next 3 months while he grows big enough for open heart surgery where they’ll repair his DORV.

Unfortunately we’ve just suffered another huge setback. February 8th they discovered he has a MRSA infection in his blood. He has also developed Thrombophlebitis on account of some of the medications he is on.  . . .

Final update. They gave him a blood transfusion and ignored our requests for directed donation until too late.

Within days of the transfusion, he developed an enormous clot that eventually stretched from his left knee, all the way to his heart. The MRSA colonized the blood clot and no amount of medication nor antibiotics could shrink the clot or remove the infection.

He rapidly went downhill, and died at 6:45 Thursday evening, 02-17-2022. The funeral will be in Walla Walla Washington on Tuesday, 02/22/2022, at 11:30 AM. My heart is torn between sadness and anger.”
