At 20 years old, Regan Lewis, who had dreamt of becoming a nurse for 8 years, had just passed her boards and became officially licensed in July. Her next plan was going back for her RN in the Fall.

But first she needed to get the COVID booster so she could participate in “clinicals” which are where nursing students get hands-on experience in the healthcare setting.

On September 27th, 2022, Regan’s mother Connie Werth Lewis posted to Facebook the unthinkable:

One day after getting the COVID-19 vaccine, Regan went into cardiac arrest. Regan was flown to Kearney, was placed on a ventilator, and her mother asked for prayers. But sadly, the young woman did not make it, Regan Lewis passed away later the same day, on September 27th.

According to her obituary:

Regan worked her way up from a CNA to a CMA, and then in May of 2022 became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Colby Health and Rehab and was continuing her studies at Colby Community College to receive her Associates Degree in Nursing and to become a Registered Nurse.

What is so tragic about this, is it seems like Regan had some anxiety about COVID testing, which is understandable because it sounds like from her past experience, it was painful. This letter that she prepared offers some insight into how nurses in training are treated, especially when they don’t comply, or just give in to every expectation.

Regan may have gotten her booster to not upset her superiors, to comply, to be “easy” for everyone. But sadly, it cost her her life.

This was a message Regan sent to her mother the day or so before she got the booster:

While her College may not have had a COVID-19 vaccine policy, each Hospital or clinicals site would have one in place. Most hospitals do.

Cardiac Arrest After COVID Vaccine

A study published April 2022, Increased emergency cardiovascular events among under-40 population in Israel during vaccine rollout and third COVID-19 wave, looking specifically at the 16–39-year-old population found that:

“An increase of over 25% was detected in both call types during January–May 2021, compared with the years 2019–2020. Using Negative Binomial regression models, the weekly emergency call counts were significantly associated with the rates of 1st and 2nd vaccine doses administered to this age group but were not with COVID-19 infection rates. While not establishing causal relationships, the findings raise concerns regarding vaccine-induced undetected severe cardiovascular side-effects and underscore the already established causal relationship between vaccines and myocarditis, a frequent cause of unexpected cardiac arrest in young individuals.”

A January 2022 case report documents a 59-year-old male with no history of cardiopulmonary disease had a heart attack after the booster dose. 

The risk of myocarditis after the COVID vaccines appear to increase with each dose. Prior to the rollout of the booster, this study finds that the second dose produces a higher rate of myocarditis than the first dose. Adolescent males 16-17 years old had the highest rate at 105.9 per million doses of the BNT162b2 vaccine. However, it appears the Moderna’s Spikevax vaccine has the highest rate for myocarditis, compared to Pfizer’s Comirnaty.

It’s not known what vaccine Regan received, if it was the first booster, or the second. But, the vaccine contributing to her death cannot be ruled out. Her death should be reported to VAERS, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.
