SIDS and Vaccines: Baby Ryann Dies 2 Weeks After Doctor Visit

Baby Ryann Madison was born in perfect health, a typical uneventful pregnancy and birth.

Ryann was bright, wise beyond her years, already laughing, didn’t cry much, perfect in every way.

Her mom Kelly was worried about SIDS and had a monitor in her crib, but because it went off twice in the first week, she removed it from the crib thinking it was malfunctioning. This was just a few weeks before Ryann would die suddenly and unexpectedly.

Baby Died SIDS

A little after two months old, Ryann was brought to the well visit for the 2 month shots (she was closer to 2 1/2 months old). She got all the vaccines recommended on the schedule in 2007.

After the shots, Ryann was fussy, and had some soreness at the injection site, which she thought was normal. Kelly also gave Ryann the recommended Tylenol; she followed all the directions of the doctor.

The night that Ryann died, Kelly and her baby were staying the night at a friend’s house. The next morning Kelly woke up and realized that Ryann had missed a feeding within seconds looked at Ryann and she was blue and cold to the touch. Kelly screamed, and her friend rushed into the room and tried CPR on Ryann but it was too late. She was gone.

Ryan was 3 months and 3 days when she passed.

Afterward, Kelly asked her pediatrician if he thought vaccines could be to blame for her daughter’s death, and the pediatrician scoffed at her, treating her like she was stupid for even asking.

Little did she know then that this is a repeated pattern where babies die shortly after vaccines.

You may be wondering how vaccines can cause a delayed response like SIDS several weeks after vaccination?

I have a theory… SIDS peaks at 2 months of age when infants are at the nadir, or lowest point, of hemoglobin; a period of time known as ‘physiologic anemia of infancy.’ Vaccines and infection, which vaccines mimic, both cause a temporary drop in hemoglobin (curiously about 8-14 days after vaccination or “cold”). Hemoglobin is the protein necessary for binding with oxygen in the blood and delivering oxygen to tissues including the brain.

Infants who die suddenly during sleep are being starved of oxygen to their brain, but it’s not because of an external factor like suffocation. So many theories have tried to find this cause of NO LONGER BREATHING. Is it the brain? Failed arousal? Is it apnea? Is it a laryngospasm? Is it a brainstem abnormality in their breathing control center? What is it? Well…it’s in their blood. Oxygen is trafficked in our blood and without hemoglobin, we don’t have oxygen. The answer to SIDS is in our babies’ blood. Curiously, this is something an infant autopsy DOES NOT EVEN LOOK AT.

This low hemoglobin, or anemia, is directly due to the overlap of several variables: age related physiologic anemia, vaccines, inflammation and or infection causing an even larger reduction in hemoglobin, and sleep which lowers the respiratory drive but in the presence of low oxygenated blood, can be a deadly period of time for some.

Risk factors for anemia and SIDS are identical:

  • 2-4 months old
  • African American and Alaskan Native
  • male
  • premature
  • low birth weight
  • maternal anemia
  • younger mother
  • low socioeconomic
  • smoking exposure
  • multiple births (twins)
  • recent infection or vaccination

Finally, SIDS caused by anemia is preventable. Eat iron rich foods during pregnancy. Delay cord clamping. Breastfeed or use iron fortified formula. Check hemoglobin after a “cold” if baby shows signs of anemia. Be aware that vaccination especially during physiologic anemia can cause a drop in hemoglobin. Avoid smoking. This is not medical advice.
